Deze drie dimensies werken altijd samen en be\u00efnvloeden elkaar. Dat kan ook niet anders, als we zien hoe ons brein is opgebouwd. Een opbouw die op de lagen van een ui lijken: de hersenstam als binnenste laag, en hierop volgend het limbische systeem (voor onze emotionele huishouding), en hierop weer de neocortex als laatste \u2018schil\u2019 van die denkbeeldige \u2018ui\u2019. Dit is de neuro-fysiologische basis van ons lichaamsbewustzijn, emotionele bewustzijn en ons denkende bewustzijn. We merken ook op dat er emoties opduiken (we krijgen informatie van ons limbisch systeem), en we merken op dat we beoordelingen en gedachten hierover hebben (we zien de neocortex zijn werk doen). We doen dat in een sfeer van respect en een open, niet oordelend onderzoek, de sfeer van mindfulness. Het lichaam is het eindstation van gedachten en emoties. Door hier en nu opmerkzaam te zijn onderscheid je wat er speelt op elk van de drie lagen. Acceptatie, onderzoek en concentratie, principes uit de mindfulness, sterken de verbinding. Je krijgt hierdoor inzicht in de onderlinge wisselwerking tussen lichaam, gemoed en geest. Je ontwikkelt overzicht en ervaart hierdoor een nieuwe vrijheid. Je deskundigheid, belangstelling en zorgzaamheid cre\u00ebren voor de cursisten een rustige en veilige sfeer, nodig om zich aan zelfonderzoek te kunnen wijden.
